ABOUT THE COLLEGE

The establishment of Siddhartha Academy of General & Technical Education in 1975 was the beginning for a miraculous transformation of this region, which was hitherto educational Sahara into an educational Nayagara. Siddhartha Academy is a highly motivated team of widely known `professionals’ with a shared vision and who have understood the dynamics of change in the field of education and have responded proactively. In its long journey of thirty six years, the Academy started sixteen educational institutions to its credit. It was also entrusted with the Management of two more institutions at Vuyyuru, a nearby town.
“If a man is educated he alone will be educated. If a woman is educated the whole family will be educated” Siddhartha Academy of General & Technical Education strongly believed in the statement. To promote women’s education in general and to provide quality education in particular the Academy started Sri Durga Malleswara Siddhartha Mahila Kalasala – Degree College in the year 1983. The college was named after the presiding deities of the city – Goddess Durga and Lord Malleswara.

The college is spread over an area of 8.22 acres. It is located at the heart of the city and is very close to the main road. Though the college is situated in a residential area, authorities have maintained it in such a way that the environment is pollution free. The college building is a four-storied U – shaped building with 82 classrooms. It houses laboratories, faculty rooms, administrative office and physical fitness centre. Playgrounds are also in the same premises. Water cooler facilities, exhaust fans, elevator, vehicle parking space for the staff and the students, a seminar hall with a seating capacity of 400 people, separate room for Audio-Visual teaching, Indoor Stadium and there are two hostels on the campus. The infrastructure caters to the requirements of the students. The college garden is beautiful and well maintained.

Its achievement in accordance with its ambition about women’s education is a dream come true. The college attained autonomous status during the academic year 2003-04. Two P.G courses M.Com & M.Sc (Mathematics) were also started from the same year. Introduction of Choice Based Credit System and Grading System from the academic year i.e., 2005 – 06 is another feather added to its cap.
